Transportation

Airports

  • Sacramento (SMF): Approximately 2 hours and 5 minutes driving to/from Tahoe City

    • We recommend this option as it has more flights than RNO and rental cars are plentiful and affordable

  • Reno/Tahoe Airport (RNO): Approximately 1 hour and 7 minutes driving to/from Tahoe city

    • Airport shuttles are available for $40-50 each way through North Lake Tahoe Express. Approx 1.5 hours to Tahoe City (price varies by # of people)

  • Oakland (OAK) or San Francisco (SFO): Approximately 4 hours from Tahoe city (but consider traffic)

    • If you are looking to extend your vacation in the San Francisco Bay Area, Oakland gives you access to Napa/Sonoma ~1.5 hours or San Francisco ~.5 hours. If you will be spending majority of your time in SF, public transportation and Uber/Lyft is easiest to get around.  Otherwise, if you'll be traveling around the Bay Area, a car is most helpful.

Rental Cars

  • Costco: If you have a membership, this is the BEST OPTION for rental cars. Alamo, Avis, Budget and Enterprise all have deals, many ~25% off. The best we found for an intermediate sedan for 4 day rental at Sac airport was $90

  • From Reno/Tahoe Airport: ~$35/day including fees. This is the closest airport, however it is small and rental cars are slightly more expensive

  • From Sacramento Airport: ~$25/day including all fees and taxes. Slightly further away than Reno/Tahoe, but better deal on rental cars and more flight options depending on flight path

  • From Oakland or SFO: ~$35-$50/day including all fees. Priciest, but many flights in and out and allows you to explore The Bay Area as well

Get Around Tahoe

A rental car is the easiest to explore the area, but if you get a ride or take a shuttle from the Tahoe aiport there are a few options to get around.

  • Public Transportation: Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART) is a shuttle system operated by the county that runs in the area.  The TART Mainline route runs from Tahoma to Incline Village and passes through Tahoe City and near our venues

  • Uber/Lyft: These services just got approved to operate in the Lake Tahoe area.  We will be checking throughout the summer and let you know if this is a viable option
